Latent finger print identification. Forensic scientist examining a fired bullet casing (gold) using a new technique that allows fingerprints to be visualised on metal surfaces,even after the print itself has been removed. Fingerprints leave a slight corrosion on metal surfaces. When a current is passed through the metal,which has been coated in a fine conducting powder,the corroded area attracts the powder to it,showing up a residual print. The technique is being used to re-open cold cases and may even work to find fingerprints on bombs. Photographed at the University of Leicester,England,UK
