Moon's south pole,Clementine image. At the centre of the frame is an impact crater, which is in permanent shadow. Radio reflectance data gathered by the Clementine spacecraft suggest that there is a sheet of water ice about 8 metres thick deep in the crater. NASA's LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) mission, launched in June 2009,will search for evidence of this water. Image taken by the Clementine spacecraft in 1994 | |
