Andre Geim (born 1958),Russian born physicist. Professor Geim,seen here holding a model of graphene,is Director of the Centre for Mesoscience and Nanotechnology at Manchester University,UK. His notable achievements include,the development of a material with similar adhesive properties to the feet of gecko lizards,the first magnetic levitation of a live animal (frog),and the discovery of graphene,a single layer of carbon atoms with many potential technology applications.Photographed in 2009 | |
