Fossilised oviraptor nest and eggs. This is a nest of the Philoceratops oviraptor,a genus of small therapod dinosaurs first discovered in Mongolia. The first fossils of this dinosaur were found on a pile of eggs. It was initially thought the specimen was preying on eggs from another species of dinosaur, but it is now thought it was brooding its own eggs. Oviraptor lived during the late Cretaceous Period, between 80 and 70 million years ago. This nest is 45 centimetres wide | |
