Dehorned rhino. Young black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) that has had both of its horns cut off. This is part of a project to dehorn rhinos,in an effort to prevent them from being killed by poachers. Rhino horn is used as an aphrodisiac in some traditional medicines and for ceremonial dagger handles. Dehorning has to be repeated annually as a rhino's horns, like fingernails, grow continuously.
