Forensic ballistics test. Bullet cartridges being compared under a microscope. One half of the image (bottom) shows one cartridge,while the other half (top) shows a different cartridge. The cartridges each held a bullet,but were ejected from a gun as the bullet was fired. Unique markings are made as the firing pin of a gun hits the cartridge and as the cartridge recoils from the bullet. The markings can be analysed and compared (as here) to markings on cartridges test-fired from guns suspected of being used in crimes.
