Inner ear hair cells (brown),coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These cells are from the vestibule of the inner ear and are surrounded by vestibular fluid. They are position hair cells and are used to sense the position of the head. When the head changes position,the change in gravity causes small calcium carbonate particles (otoliths) in the vestibular fluid to move.
