Wild lupin flowers (Lupinus sp.). These unusual lupins are growing in a paramo region. The paramo ecosystem is found in the neotropical ecozone,a region consisting of moist, broadleaf forests found in South and Central America, the Mexican lowlands, the Caribbean islands and southern Florida. The paramo ecosystem is specifically found only at high elevations, between about 3100 metres and 5000 metres in altitude. It consists of mostly glacier-formed valleys and plains, plus a large variety of lakes, peat bogs and wet grasslands, intermingled with shrublands and forest patches.
