Sycamore seeds (Acer pseudoplatanus). The sycamore is native to Europe, although it has been introduced into temperate areas worldwide. The wings on these seeds allow them to be dispersed far away from the tree they came from by the wind. They rotate as they fall, which keeps them airborne in the manner of a helicopter. This aids the spread of the species. Photographed in spring,in the UK | |
