Ragwort pollen. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen grains of the ragwort plant (Senecio sp.),a member of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It grows in pastures and wasteland across Europe. The outer wall (exine) of each pollen grain has a spiky structure, which may serve to adhere the pollen to insect pollinators. The pollen carries the male genetic information of the plant. Magnification unknown | |
