Pollination of a Spanish broom flower,Spartium,by a bee. When a bee lands on the yellow petals of this flower, the stamens (with yellow anther tips) and stigma curl back and touch the body of the bee. The stamens then release their pollen onto the bee, while the stigma picks up pollen from the bee deposited by another flower. In this way cross pollination occurs. Here, the bee has collected some of this excess pollen from its body and has deposited it into a pollen basket on its hindleg. It is busy feeding on nectar that is located at the base of the petals | |
