Cannabis. Leaf of the hemp or marijuana plant,Cannabis sativa,a native of central Asia. Cannabis is cultivated for three products: fibre from the stems, seed oil and an intoxicating drug. The plant is a fast-growing annual and a common weed in northern India which can grow to over five metres tall with numerous side branches. Male and female flowers are borne on different plants. The drug is produced in minute resin glands on the plant surface, and is most concentrated in female flowers. These grow into large swollen buds called sinsemilla ("without seed") if deprived of pollen | |
