Lavender. A field of lavender,Lavandula spica. The name comes from Latin lavare,wash,referring to the plant's use in toilet preparations. It flowers between midsummer and early autumn,and it is harvested just before the flowers are fully open. It is a favourite plant of bees. Lavender has antitussive and antispasmodic properties.
