Saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea). This large cactus can live for over 250 years,reaching heights of over 15 metres. It is a succulent plant,capable of storing over 6000 kilograms of water. It possesses very shallow but wide- spreading roots,which can grow to cover an area over 25 metres in diameter. The saguaro cactus flowers in May and June,each flower lasting for only 24 hours.
