Baobab tree (Adansonia grandidieri). This tree is endemic to western Madagascar. It can grow to heights of 30 metres. Its large swollen trunk is adapted to storing water allowing the baobab to thrive in arid conditions. The fibrous bark can be up to 15 centimetres thick and is used to make rope.
