Baobab tree (Adansonia grandidieri). This tree is endemic to western Madagascar. It can grow to heights of 25 metres. Its large swollen trunks are adapted to storing water and it only produces leaves during the wet season. The fibrous bark,which can be up to 15 centimetres thick,is used to make rope.
