Beech woodland. View of a common beech tree (Fagus sylvatica),in a mixed deciduous woodland,seen in the spring. The beech is a common European deciduous tree,which can grow up to 30 metres high. It can grow on acidic or chalky soil,and prefers a temperate oceanic climate. Its wood is fairly hard and compact,and is used in joinery,furniture,flooring and handles for implements.
