Coast silktassel (Garrya elliptica),also known as wavyleaf silktassel. This evergreen shrub, native to southwestern North America, can grow to 4 metres in both height and spread. Plants of this species are either male or female, with the male plants producing the 8-20 centimetre long catkin- like "silk tassels" visible in the image. It is from these that the shrub gets its common name. Both male and female plants are in flower from November to February | |
