Mountains avens and upright lousewort plants. Mountain avens (Dryas octopetala,left) is a perennial shrub that is common on sandy or gravelly soils in the Arctic and mountainous regions of Europe. It blooms in spring and throughout the summer. Upright or flame-tipped lousewort (Pedicularis flammea) is a semi- parasite,obtaining nutrients from the roots of surrounding plants through organs known as haustoria (not seen).
