Asteraceae flowers. The family Asteraceae includes sunflowers, daisies and asters. They have flower heads that appear to be a single flower but are actually a cluster of small flowers surrounded by coloured bracts (specialised leaves). This plant is in a paramo ecosystem in a neotropical ecozone. Neotropical areas comprise moist, broadleaf forests in South and Central America, the Mexican lowlands, the Caribbean islands and southern Florida. The paramo ecosystem is found only at high elevations, between about 3100 metres and 5000 metres in altitude. It consists of mostly glacier-formed valleys and plains, plus a large variety of lakes, peat bogs, wet grasslands and forest patches. Photographed in the Rio Blanco Valley,Zamora-Chinchipe,Ecuador | |
