Hybrid orchid flower (Masdevallia x mystica). This orchid is a natural hybrid between M. filaria and another, unknown, parent. The plant was named mystica in recognition of the fact that this other parent is unknown. The tube-shape of the flower is formed by the fusion of the three sepals, which taper into the points seen here. This orchid is found in Colombia. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows on trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers | |
