Orchid flower (Masdevallia misasii). The flower has three large sepals (pointed, green with red spots). An inner ring of small petals surrounds the reproductive parts (white). Two of the petals are green. The third one is red,and is called the lip. The lip attracts pollinators to the flower. The Masdevallia orchids are mostly from tropical mountain regions of South America. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers | |
