Orchid flowers (Dendrobium capitiyorki). There are two flowers seen here. The spectacular, elongated and pointed petals and sepals are clearly seen on the flower at upper centre. The white petal at the centre of the flower is a specialised petal called a lip. It attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). The Dendrobium orchids are found in the tropical regions of Asia, southwards to Australia. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers | |
