Orchid flowers (Cadetia dischorensis). The flowers have a specialised petal called a lip. This is a different shape to two other petals (pointed) and 3 sepals (triangular),looking more like a pair of slippers. The lip acts as a landing platform for pollinators that are attracted to the flowers. The Cadetia orchids are mostly found in New Guinea. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers | |
