An algal flush of cyanobacteria, formerly called blue- green algae,in the ruts left by a tractor in a field of barley. The flush appeared within days of the puddles being established and the crop being fertilised with liquid fertiliser applied from a spraying machine. The picture illustrates the very high fertility of water in the vicinity of cereal crops causing a form of chemical pollution by nitrogen fertilisers | |
