Chlamydomonas chlorostellata. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of the unicellular green freshwater alga,Chlamydomonas chlorostellata,on an unknown surface. Two tail-like flagella are seen emerging from the characteristically ovoid-shaped cell. These are used for the cell's locomotion. Chlamydomanas is a large genus comprising of over 500 species of green algae which are widespread and common in a range of freshwater habitats and damp soils.
