Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus sp.) growing on a dead alder tree. They are found throughout the north temperate zone, mainly on dead hardwood trees. They are edible and can be commercially grown on a variety of substrates. The common name derives from the pearly white/grey colour of the fruiting bodies, which are produced in large clusters.
