Bread mould. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the fruiting bodies (sporangia) of an unidentified bread mould. Each sporangium produces spores. When the spores are mature, the wall fragments, releasing them into the air. Spores that settle in favourable conditions (such as on food) germinate into the familiar spots of mould. Various species of fungus are classed as bread moulds. Magnification unknown | |
