A few of the bacteria are undergoing cell division appeared pinched in at the waist as a prelude to splitting into two cells. Whooping cough bacteria parasitise only humans. They cause a respiratory tract infection characterised by fits of coughing that end in loud inspiratory whoops. The infection usually occurs in childhood,although adults are sometimes affected.
