Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a colony of Acinetobacter sp. ,a species of non- motile,non-sporing,Gram negative bacteria belonging to the Neisseriaceae group. Individual members are often encapsulated,and may occur in pairs; size varies from 0. 5 to 1. 5 micrometers. The central bacillus (rod-shaped bacterium) is seen in longitudinal section. The bacteria may become pathogenic to humans and animals,causing a wide range of infections,including septicaemia and urinary tract infection.
