False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Flavobacterium meningosepticum,a species of gram-negative bacteria that normally inhabits soil and water which has also been found in hospital environments,where it may cause meningitis in premature infants and adults with immune deficiencies. In hospitals,the species has been isolated from sinks,disinfectants and respiratory & urinary tract equipment.
