False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Enterobacter sp (gram negative),a rod- shaped bacterium not exceeding 0.5 microns in width. They are found primarily in water,soil,sewage & the intestinal tract of humans & animals. Enterobacter capable of growing in the presence or absence of oxygen. Under anaerobic conditions it obtains energy by fermenting carbohydrates; under aerobic conditions it is able to use a wide range of organic compounds.
