Carbon dioxide test. Test tube of limewater with carbon dioxide gas being bubbled through. The limewater,a solution of calcium hydroxide in water,is turning milky. This is used as a test for the presence of carbon dioxide. The reaction between limewater and carbon dioxide produces calcium carbonate as a white solid (precipitate). The equation for the reaction is: CO2 + Ca(OH)2 ---> CaCO3 + H2O | |
