Displacement reaction. Image 2 of 2. Test tubes after a displacement reaction between magnesium and copper. Strips of copper (right) and magnesium (left) were added to solutions of the other's sulphate salt. Magnesium is more reactive than copper,and it displaced the copper from its sulphate solution,forming a solution of magnesium sulphate. The displaced copper metal formed a dark coating on the magnesium strip.
