Magnesium reacting with acid. Strip of magnesium metal (Mg) reacting with dilute hydrochloric acid (HCl). This reaction liberates bubbles of hydrogen gas (H2) from the acid, while the magnesium enters solution, forming a solution of magnesium chloride (MgCl). The magnesium has displaced the hydrogen. The reaction equation is: Mg + 2HCl -> MgCl2 + H2 | |
