Electronic display of a two-jet event in the JADE detector at the PETRA electron-positron collider at the DESY particle physics laboratory,Hamburg. An electron & positron have collided at centre & annihilated into pure energy which rematerialises in the form of a quark & antiquark. The quark & antiquark live too briefly to be visible, but they betray their presence when they immediately decay into two oppositely directed jets of new particles. The display shows a cross- section of the JADE detector. The pink arcs, green boxes & brown rectangles represent different parts of the detector | |
