Electronic display of the decay of an upsilon - a particle made of a bottom quark & antiquark - in the CLEO detector at the CESR collider at Cornell University. An electron & a positron have met & annihilated at centre; their energy produces an excited upsilon,which lives too briefly to show. It decays into a lower energy state by emitting a photon which converts into the curving electron (green) & positron (red). The lower- energy upsilon then decays to its ground state by emitting another photon,detected at bottom right (blue).
