Bubble chamber photo of the production & decay of two charmed particles - particles containing a charm quark. An invisible photon has entered from the top, collided with a proton in the bubble chamber's liquid,& produced a neutral & a charged charmed particle. The neutral particle, probably a D-zero,is invisible, but reveals itself when it decays into two other particles - the inverted "V" at lower left. The charged charmed particle (top) travels about 2mm before it also decays - into three particles. The photo was taken at the Hybrid Facility bubble chamber at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center,California | |
