Quantum waves. Computer model showing a quantum wavefunction bouncing from a rough surface. The wavefunction was 'dropped' from top,and it has bounced once against the rough surface seen across bottom. The compressed pattern seen at bottom is faster velocities (or shorter wavelengths). The wavelengths at top are more spaced out, indicating that this part of the wavefunction has slowed and is about to fall back down again. The yellow and blue colours correspond to peaks in the quantum wavefunction. Such studies may have applications in atomic-scale electronics.
