Experiment that discovered CP violation,1964. The photo shows the set-up of experiment E181 at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL),Long Island,New York. In 1964,E181 discovered a subtle imbalance between matter and antimatter,known as charge-parity or CP violation. E181 studied the decays of 'strange' particles called neutral kaons & found that very occasionally they decay in a way that violates CP symmetry - the rule that any interaction of particles should work in the same way as (be symmetric to) the same interaction with equivalent antiparticles | |
