170 million years of continental drift is condensed to 15 seconds of movement in an animation based on plate reconstructions by the Research Center for Marine Geosciences (GEOMAR). The sequence begins with a blurred image which slowly comes into focus to reveal the supercontinent Pangaea envisioned by Alfred Wegener. The sequence ends with present-day continental positions, shorelines and ocean levels in Mollweide projection. | |
