Clips from the launch of NASA's Parker Solar Probe. This spacecraft lifted off at 3:31 am EDT (7:31 am GMT) on 12th August 2018. It was launched on board a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket, from Space Launch Complex-37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, USA. The launch proceeded successfully, beginning the probe's seven-year mission to the Sun. It will fly closer to the Sun than any other probe, coming within six million kilometres, or about 8.5 solar diameters. During its mission it will study the solar corona, solar wind and the Sun's magnetic field. | |
