Apollo 11 lunar surface EVA training. US astronauts Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) and Buzz Aldrin (born 1930) training for the lunar surface portion of the Apollo 11 mission. Armstrong was mission commander and Aldrin was the Lunar Module pilot. Training took place at the Flight Crew Training Building (FCTB) at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. The Apollo 11 mission (16-24 July 1969) was the first landing by humans on the Moon, with Armstrong and Aldrin descending to the surface in the LM, while the third crew member Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command Module. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 2 hours, 31 minutes on the lunar surface. Training began after the crew were selected in 1967. | |
