View from NASA's Ranger VII probe as it approaches and then impacts the Moon. Ranger VII was the first American mission to return close-up photos of the lunar surface. It was launched on 28th July 1964, and impacted the Moon three days later. During its descent it returned 4308 photos, helping to pave the way for the Apollo mission's landing humans on the Moon five years later. | |
