Whale shark (Rhincodon typus). This is the largest fish in the world, reaching a length of over 12 metres. It feeds on plankton and shoals of small fish, which it filters from the water by passing it through its gill rakers. It is slow-moving and not aggressive, and is tolerant of attendent fish and other species, including divers. It is found throughout the tropical seas of the world.
