Impressive close up view of the Lunar Module Spider's ascent stage from on board the Command Module. The Earth can be seen behind - with clouds and ocean views passing. The lower stage of the LEM is missing - jettisoned before the LM returned to the CSM. The thermal protective Mylar layer catches the sunlight sparkling as the spacecraft spins around revealing the bell of its ascent engine. This ascent stage reportedly remained in orbit around the Earth until 1981 when it finally burnt up entering the atmosphere. Date recorded: 1969-03-07 | |
