Glen Canyon Dam. Footage of the Glen Canyon Dam, near Page, Arizona, USA. This dam lies on the Colorado River, on the Arizona-Utah border, forming a reservoir (Lake Powell). It is a concrete thick arch dam, designed to transfer the load of the water behind it onto the walls of the canyon. The dimensions are: 475 metres (crest length) and 216 metres (structural height). As well as controlling water flow, it is also used to generate electrical power. Access roads, a bridge, and the surrounding desert, are also seen. The dam was built from 1957 to 1964, and is one of the largest concrete dams in the world. | |
