Compound eye lenses. Footage of the lenses of a mosquito's compound eye. The compound eye lenses are shining as the camera focuses on them. A compound eye consists of many rounded lenses known as ommatidia. Each ommatidium is a simple eye that sends a signal to the insect's brain. All the signals are combined by the insect's brain to form a mosaic view of the world. The image seen is not very sharp but good at detecting movements. | |
