Affinity chromatography, animation. This technique is used to separate individual compounds from a mixture of compounds. A column is packed with porous gel particles that have ligands attached for a specific compound. When a sample is poured into the column, the ligands bind that specific compound, while everything else filters through. An ionic solution is then poured into the column to separate the compound from the ligand so that it can be collected. | |
