Tumour progression, animation. At first, this tumour is encapsulated by a fibrous sheath of connective tissue. It is classified as benign, or non-cancerous. However, many types of benign tumour have the potential to become malignant (cancerous). These include polyps in the bowel or moles on the skin. The capsule may degrade and the cancer cells may invade surrounding tissue. Some benign tumours can grow for several years without showing signs of malignancy. | |
